A man called me mamí today,

and another said, “looking good.”

I like the feeling of my hair against the backs of my elbows

as I walk.

Like it reminds me that I am there-

a real person.

HELD IN LARGE HANDS is a series of collaged objects that attempt to rationalize a (confused) female identity. Tiled surfaces, decorative woman-debris, and girlhood sweets are collided together in messy junctures that articulate new (splintered) spaces/ terrains/ bodies. Pierced skins, picked flowers, ceramic beads, makeup, drooping garland become a body that is not an actualized body – a body in parts, a possible body, a malleable body, a body nonexistent.
